CAROLYN BLACK
Carolyn Black grew up in Denver, Colorado, and developed an interest in art at a very early age. She recently received her B.F.A. from Macalester College in Saint Paul with a major in Studio Art and a minor in German Studies. She completed an internship with Form+Content in the spring of 2009. Her main focus is on hand-built ceramics, but she is interested in all forms of art, particularly 3-D. Her professional experiences include working as a jewelry-maker in Denver, interning at Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, and teaching ceramics to teens at a camp in Estes Park, Colorado. Black is working as a photographer in the Rocky Mountains this summer and plans to return to the Twin Cities in the fall for a ceramics apprenticeship at Macalester College.
"During my semester-long internship with Form+Content, I assisted gallery members in taking down and setting up exhibitions, and by working at openings. I also learned a great deal about curating and setting up art shows by joining the publicity and community outreach committees for the intern show. I gained a great deal of valuable experience in gallery work and understanding the way a non-profit gallery is run. I attended several member meetings and even more intern meetings to help prepare for the intern show and set up scheduled events for the gallery members. My work with Form+Content helped me make valuable connections with members of the art world, and also taught me quite a bit about what it means to be an artist and a member of an independently-run gallery. This experience will come in handy for me as I continue finding my place in the art world after college graduation."--Carolyn Black
