Field Notes: 7 Truths About the Rural
Geographically, over 90% of the United States is classified as rural, yet the term ‘rural’ often evokes sentimental images of red barns and monoculture. Field Notes: 7 Truths About the Rural presents seven artists who live or work in the non-urban Midwest, creating art that ranges from explicit cultural comment to sublime abstraction. Each reflects their unique experience; together they present an opportunity for urban dwellers to understand that rural to urban is not a divide, but a continuum. Co-curated by multidisciplinary artist Sandra Menefee Taylor and photographer Ellie Kingsbury.
