LANDSCAPE STORIES
Virtual Artists’ Talk
On Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 7:00 pm CST via Zoom, a tour of the exhibition by the artist included questions and answers.
Form + Content Gallery presents Form and Content Gallery presents Landscape Stories, new intaglio prints, and watercolor paintings by James Boyd Brent. These pieces highlight James Boyd Brent’s incisive takes on representing incidents and histories in the physical world. Here, different settings range from our familiar Minneapolis riverbank, to fountains in Rome, to a variety of other near and far specific places. At times, James constructs people and animals whose forms radiate whimsy and charm in a fantastic world. However, March 27,2020, has a different feeling: this is a celebration of the importance of protest in our democracy. Landscape Stories features honed and beautiful manipulations of watercolor, drawing and intaglio to make sense about our place in the world, especially the world in this strange Covid time.
James Boyd Brent, a London, U.K. native, received a BFA from the Central/St. Martin’s School of Art. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and received an MFA in printmaking from the University of Minnesota. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including shows at Highpoint Center (Minneapolis) and Groveland Gallery, (Minneapolis), New York Studio Gallery (NY, NY) and Bankside Gallery (London, UK). His work is represented in the collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, University of Minnesota’s Weisman Museum, Minnesota History Museum, Print Council Collection (London, UK), Ashmolean University (Oxford, UK), Dale-Rowney Art Collection (London, UK) and numerous other public and private collections.
