age-related positivity effect
Created between 2013-2014, I chose the literal subject of ‘bears’ as a means to continue my ongoing interest in other life forms and the use of gesture within a concentrated space. As a bonus, I had recently discovered the phenomenon referred to as ‘age-related positivity effect,’ which recognizes that with age, we often cultivate the appreciation of the positive over the negative side of things. It aptly reinforces the fact that my work is meant to impart ‘the pleasure of a comfortable chair’ (ala Matisse), which might be enough said.
